  1. When do I start the process for applying for scholarships?

You should begin the process of searching for scholarship opportunities in your sophomore or junior year of high school. It can be a very time consuming process. It is helpful to know what types of scholarships are available so you can work towards being qualified for such scholarship (i.e., classes to take, GPA)

  1. When do I apply for scholarships?

Most application deadlines are February through May. Be sure and check with the sponsor for exact dates. The process for applying for scholarships should begin January 1st, with the collection of recommendation letters, transcripts, verification of member, writing your essay, etc.

  1. Who may apply for United Methodist Scholarships?

Each institution is unique. However, for the most part visit the sponsoring institution’s respective web-site. Most applications may be made on-line. You will then need to follow-up your application with your recommendation letters, transcripts, and proof of membership.

  1. When will I receive my award?

Recipients will receive an award letter in the spring. Scholarships are then awarded once verification of enrollment in the fall term is received (after classes have started in the fall). An award check will then be mailed to the recipient’s school. The school will then provide the funds to the student.

  1. What are some other resources for scholarships?

Check with your financial aid office, use the library and internet for resources, ask your employer (or parents’ employer), visit your local Chamber of Commerce Office, and inquire with local non-profit organizations. There are many free resources online. Never pay for someone to find you scholarship monies.
